Terms

These terms cover your use of the Pixel Pane app for macOS. Installing or using it means you accept them. They're written to be read — plain language, no surprises buried in the middle.

What you're buying

A licence to use Pixel Pane, not the software itself. The app and its source remain ours. Your licence is personal, non-exclusive, and non-transferable, and it does not expire — a purchased licence keeps working on the version you bought and every update we ship for it.

Your Macs

A licence key activates on a limited number of Macs. Your allowance and your current activations are shown in your Polar customer portal, linked from your purchase email.

Removing the licence in Settings → License releases that Mac's activation slot, so you can move a licence to a new machine yourself without asking us. Do that before you sell or wipe a Mac. If you get locked out because a machine died before you could deactivate it, email us and we'll clear the slot.

Trial

Pixel Pane runs free and complete for 14 days from first launch. The trial clock is a timestamp in the app's own preferences on your Mac. Please don't reset it to extend the trial — if 14 days wasn't enough to decide, write in and we'll extend it for you.

Requirements

Pixel Pane is built for Macs with a notch, running on Apple Silicon, on macOS 15.2 or later. The full list is on the home page, and it is worth reading before you buy — the app installs and launches on hardware it isn't designed for, and will simply not deliver what it promises there. The 14-day trial exists so you can confirm this on your own machine. See the refund policy if you find out too late.

What you may not do

• Share, resell, sublicense, or publish your licence key.
• Redistribute the app, or a modified version of it, as your own product.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or work around the licensing — except where your local law gives you that right regardless of what a contract says, in which case your law applies.
• Use it to break the law, or to attack systems you don't have permission to touch.

The terminal and file access

Pixel Pane includes a real shell and can write to folders you grant it. Commands run as you, with your permissions, on your Mac, and file changes are applied after you approve them. You are responsible for what you run and what you approve. Keep backups. We cannot undo a command you confirmed.

AI models and third-party services

In Local Mode everything runs on your Mac. If you connect OpenRouter or your own OpenAI or Anthropic key, those requests are governed by your agreement with that provider and billed to your account — we operate no server, take no cut, and hold no account of your own. On-device model weights are downloaded from Hugging Face under each model's own licence.

AI output is generated, not verified. It can be wrong, and it can be confidently wrong. Check anything that matters before you act on it. See the privacy policy for exactly what leaves your Mac and when.

Purchases and tax

Polar is the merchant of record for Pixel Pane. They handle checkout, payment, invoicing, and VAT or sales tax, under their own terms and privacy policy. We never see your payment details. Refunds are covered by our refund policy.

Updates

Release builds check for updates automatically using Sparkle and can install them with your confirmation. We may change, add, or remove features between versions. You are never forced to update, but support and fixes target the current release.

No warranty

Pixel Pane is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every Mac, macOS version, or third-party tool. Where your local consumer law grants warranties that cannot be excluded, those still apply and nothing here limits them.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to Pixel Pane is limited to the amount you paid for your licence. We are not liable for lost data, lost profits, or indirect or consequential damages. Again, where your local law does not permit this limitation, it doesn't apply to you.

Ending the licence

You may stop using Pixel Pane and remove your licence at any time. We may terminate a licence that is being redistributed or used to break these terms; if we do, we'll tell you why, and refund you if the licence was recent.

Changes

These terms may change as the product does. Material changes apply going forward, never retroactively to a purchase you already made.
